Expand Your Small Business While Keeping Your Focus By Contracting Internal Functions

Posted on

You're successful because of your expertise in your products and services. As your company grows, the demand for internal operational services increases. You'll allocate more time and resources to those services to support your expansion plans. One way to expand and keep your focus on those things you do best is to consider contracting out some of your important tasks. Here are a few of the areas where you can use outside talent to support your business.

Bookkeeping

You can find contractors with accounting and bookkeeping backgrounds that will work in your office or from their home. Since these skills are often transferable from one business type to the next, it's likely that you'll find a number of resources from which to choose. You'll also want to keep these contractors around for those key fiscal periods such as doing your monthly accounts payable, processing receivables, and the month end close.

Payroll

You can also engage a payroll services company (such as A & C Accounting & Tax) to process employee paychecks, tax and benefits payments. Once you have familiarized a contractor with your payroll needs, you may only use them a few days out of the month. Like the bookkeeping staff, they can work inside your office or remotely.

Human Resources

You'll need HR resources throughout your company expansion, especially if you plan to open up offices or services in other parts of the country or the world. Contract resources will make sure you stay compliant with local labor laws regardless of the country in which your employees live and work. The HR personnel will help you advertise your positions, find qualified candidates and set up interviews.  These are time-consuming tasks that take your existing staff away from products, services, and customer support.

Technical Support

Your staff likely relies on a number of technical resources to do their jobs. From desktop workstations to the printers and scanners, these items break down at the most inconvenient times. Contract your technical support out to companies that specialize in methods to support you remotely and you'll rarely see them on site. They will help you establish working agreements with hardware companies to quickly replace equipment that has failed. Some tech support companies offer staff training on new software and programs to bring new employees up to speed on the applications that your staff uses.

Website Maintenance and Social Media Management

These functions can take up a lot of time from your staff. Keeping the company website current with your business' information is important so customers and prospects can see how active your company is. Keeping your social media platforms up to date and matching the information on the website maintains people's interest in your products and services.

All of these functions are important to your company. But, they can be done externally by contractors to free up your staff to stay focused on what your company does best.
